Fish & Chip Shops (an analogy)
For so long I have wondered why Fish & Chip Shops external and internal design features are so bland.
Does an owner think they don’t need to spend a cent on the way their business looks?
Are happy to wake up every day with the same routine, by turning the deep fryer on and putting their “open” a-frame sign on the pavement?
Are they happy with the same income week to week?
Do they accept that they will be doing this for the rest of their lives with little holidays?
I asked these questions to myself last night as I drove past multiple suburban Fish & Chip Shops that all looked the same. I instantly related this back to the web design industry.
You need to ask yourself;
Did I get a website because I was told I needed one?
Did I make my website with a do-it-yourself website builder provided for free from my hosting company where I registered my domain name?
Do I hesitate to mention my website to friends and potential clients, knowing that it looks bland?
If you answered “yes” to any of those three questions, you may have to consider yourself to be the “Fish & Chip Shop” of your industry.
Then you need to ask yourself;
Are you happy applying this term to your business?
If you answered “yes” stop reading now.
If you answered “no” please ask yourself;
Do I want to stay competitive in the business environment?
Do I want to develop my business into a brand people love?
Do I want want to promote my business with confidence?
