4 Quick Tips to Get (and Retain) Email Subscribers
You know it already – email marketing is one of the top ways you can attract repeat customers. As well as adding a little something special to their buying experience, sending out a regular newsletter is the best way to remain front-of-mind.
What you also know is that most subscribers aren’t that loyal – and it can be disheartening when you log on to MailChimp to see yet another person has hit the Unsubscribe button. And, you’re not alone. On average, email subscription lists decrease by about 22% each year.
Here, we share our top tips for building your subscriber base – and for keeping the 22% happily subscribed.
Entice them to open
Opening the email is the very first thing your subscriber has to do. The action of clicking Open is also one of the biggest things that will keep them subscribed.
If they continually leave your emails sitting unopened in their inbox – or they just delete them on first sight – then you have a problem. After all, it shows they’re not engaging with your content.
Get them interested from the get-go with an enticing subject line. Winning subject lines will get them opening the email – and since you engaged their interest here, they’re less likely to unsubscribe later.
Create high-value content
What comes after the subject line? Your engaging body of content, of course.
Once the user is engaged and alert, give them a reason to stick around. Create visual and written content that captures their attention. Bonus points if they love it so much they forward it to their friends.
No, we’re not talking about the old-school advertising windows that disrupted your browsing. We mean the tech-savvy software that can deliver specific ads based on your users’ actions.
Software like Unbounce will track the movement of your visitor’s cursor. When it looks like they’re about to leave the page, a call to action will appear on top of the site, enticing people to subscribe.
Give them something in return
Sure, your email content is great. But what will your subscribers really get from you? Convince them to follow through and subscribe by giving them something tangible in return. Whether that’s 10% off their order, a free eBook, subsidised shipping or subscriber-only blog posts, they need to see lots of value before they hand over their email address.
