Get them interested from the get-go with an enticing subject line. Winning subject lines will get them opening the email – and since you engaged their interest here, they’re less likely to unsubscribe later.
Create high-value content
What comes after the subject line? Your engaging body of content, of course.
Once the user is engaged and alert, give them a reason to stick around. Create visual and written content that captures their attention. Bonus points if they love it so much they forward it to their friends.

Whether that’s 10% off their order, a free eBook, subsidised shipping or subscriber-only blog posts, they need to see lots of value before they hand over their email address.
