Not another Post on the Top Trends to Follow in 2016

It’s a new year, so it’s time to breathe new life into your digital marketing techniques. Here we outline three of the biggest trends to keep an eye on for 2016, including the utilisation of digital assistants, Instagram advertising and subscription e-commerce services. Ask Siri: What does this mean for SEO?

As more people turn to their mobile devices to browse the web, it seems that more people are also turning to their voice, as opposed to their fingers, to do the searching. Siri, and other smartphones’ in-built digital assistants, are becoming increasingly popular for answering queries that we used to type into Google. Aside from simply reducing the need to type, it means that we’re not entering in those popular keywords into search engines as often. It’s early days, but this could have a serious flow-on effect for SEO.

Advertising on Instagram

While there was initial backlash against advertising on Instagram when it first rolled out, it’s proving to be a fairly popular medium for businesses (and celebrities) of all kinds. From clothing labels and restaurants, to services, news websites and avocados (an Avocados Australia ad popped up on my feed yesterday), businesses of all kinds are getting into the spirit of promoting their goods on Instagram. It’s an effective – and affordable – way of building brand awareness and connecting with their audiences on an emotional level. With the photo sharing platform only growing every year, it’s set to become an advertising avenue of choice for even more companies.

Set and forget

Subscription services are nothing new – it’s been around for decades with magazines, for example. However, online businesses are fast catching onto this concept too for the customer loyalty it forges and, let’s not forget, the regular payments! It also provides marketers with a wealth of customer information, such as customer purchase habits, that can be easily tapped into. Customers love it because it’s super convenient and they don’t have to remember to place their next order when they run out. The beauty industry definitely dominates in the subscription service – there’s hundreds of websites that send you monthly goodies in the mail once you sign up. For the blokes, there’s a great service called Dollar Shave Club. You select one of their razors, pay a monthly fee, and get it shipped right to your door.
