The Internet has gone Jar Jar for Star Wars

Some of you may have noticed your Google apps have gotten a galactic makeover today! Yep, the secrets out. Google meets Star Wars this December when the brands plan to launch a new virtual reality experience that ties directly into the release of the franchise’s next movie. The VR experience will be released via iPhone and mobile devices operating with Android capability.

Which side will you choose?

Neither brand is one to shy away from making a statement; they decided to do something out of this world to celebrate the collaboration. And to put it lightly, the internet has gone absolutely Jar Jar. Upon logging in this morning at work, at university, or at home, users have been posed with one important question: should they join the ‘dark side’ or the ‘light side’? Their apps then transform accordingly.

Mark your calendar, oh wait…

If you’re worried this makeover may affect the efficiency of your apps, don’t “Fett” (get it? We’re funny). Google insists there’s no change to functionality. However, you will find your calendar is now marked with various Star Wars related events from now until the movie’s release when it will then reset.

Use the force they did

The force is strong with the Star Wars marketing team and whether you’re a fan of the franchise or not, you can’t help but admire their efforts. It has undoubtedly sparked conversations in commute, around the water cooler, and is sure to be brought up later tonight around the dinner table, too.

I can’t believe its real cardboard..!?

As for the VR experience itself, users will need Google’s Cardboard gadget to take part whilst they wait for other systems to hit the market. How does it work? Simply slide your smartphone into the cardboard headset to begin. Though Google’s Cardboard offers less interaction than some VR competitors, it allows users to access the experience at a minimised cost right now.

What are you waiting for? Purchase yours here.

And finally, here’s some wisdom to get you through hump day from everyone’s favourite little green man…
